Free Software? Yes its called Open source.
Did you know that its possible to obtain all of the software that you need to work from home for free!
Open source software is software that allows you to change the source code to suit your own needs as long as the original copyright authors rights are maintained.
In order to make a computer work it needs an operating system. Most people have heard about Microsoft Windows, however this is proprietary software that you have to pay for. The source code of the operating system is also closed which means that you can't change it. You get just what the manufacturer delivers to you. There are alternatives which are open source such as Linux. My own favourite is Ubuntu Linux. However there are literally dozens of different Linux distributions, try them out and find the one that suits you the best.
You can then find software to do all of the tasks that you need to do all for free. I've listed some of my favourites below. If you must stick to Windows then some of these are also available for Windows users.
Web browser - Firefox
E-mail - Thunderbird
E-mail, calender and organising - Evolution
Office Package - OpenOffice
Graphics - Gimp
